exercises to relieve muscle tension

The fast pace of modern life often leads to fatigue, muscle tension, and exhaustion. By paying attention to our bodily sensations and the condition of our muscles, we can live with ease and relaxation. Below, we’ll discuss muscle tension in more detail and how to manage it.

What is muscle tension?

muscle tension

Muscle tension describes a state in which muscles are partially or completely contracted. This can result from intense physical activity, stress, or more serious medical conditions.

Causes of muscle tension:

Stress and anxiety. Emotional tension often translates into physical tension, especially in the neck, back, and shoulders.

Muscle fatigue and overexertion. Excessively intense or improperly performed physical exercises can cause muscle tension and pain.

Poor posture. Improper body posture can cause uneven strain on muscles and joints, leading to chronic tension.

Fatigue. Lack of necessary rest and recovery after physical exertion.

Staying in one position for a long time. Sitting at a desk for long periods, driving a car, or other activities requiring maintaining a single position for an extended time can contribute to muscle tension.

As mentioned above, posture (body position without muscle tension) is a key factor in the proper functioning of the body and muscles. A state of constant, slight muscle tension—known as muscle tone—helps maintain posture and stabilize internal organs. To check if your posture is correct, stand with your back against a wall without a baseboard so that the back of your head, shoulder blades, buttocks, calf muscles, and heels touch the wall. The distance between the wall and your body in the neck and lower back areas should be about 2–3 fingers.

Everyone has some degree of body asymmetry, but if it is clearly visible, you should consult a doctor.

Relaxing muscles through exercise

“exercises

Very often, people experience localized muscle tension, for example in the lower back, shoulders, upper back, abdomen, neck, and other parts of the body. This can be relieved with an intense massage in these areas. Massage therapists often use percussion massagers, which reach deep into the body’s muscles and relieve pain, tension, and fatigue within minutes. The advantage of these massagers is that you can perform the massage yourself at home, and you can take the device with you when traveling.

To improve your well-being, you can perform exercises to relieve muscle tension; these involve alternately tensing and relaxing different muscle groups. You can familiarize yourself with the Jacobson technique, in which you tense specific muscle groups. It is important to focus on them and to be careful not to tense other muscle groups.

Physical exercises aimed at relieving muscle tension will also be effective; there are many of them, so you can choose the ones that are right for you online.

Very often, fatigue after a hard and productive day is felt in the lower limbs. Foot massagers have become indispensable items in people’s homes.
